More about the Artist:
Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol continue the sarcastic streak of their previous album title, *Big Dumb Riffs*, by doubling down with *Ca$h Grab*. The irony, and perhaps the point, is that *Ca$h Grab* represents the band’s most introspective and lyrically vulnerable songwriting to date.
The band still bludgeons with thunderous 8-string guitar, growling bass chords, and pummeling drums. But as bassist Aaron Metzdorf explains, these tracks are “more pop-song-forward while still in the idiom of heavy music.”
The album finds vocalist and guitarist Leo Lydon, drummer Sean St. Germain, and bassist and vocalist Metzdorf expanding their mastery of heavy, hook-filled riffs and earworm melodies that would make *Green Album*-era Weezer jealous. After the Spartan, Primus-meets-Pantera rhythmic ruction of *Big Dumb Riffs*, often delivered in two minutes or less, the band lets melody lead the charge this time around.
The lyrics are also more personal and revealing, set against twisting arrangements that nod to influences ranging from Built to Spill and Sugar-style indie pop to early-’90s Rush.
“The heavier parts are even heavier, but more fleshed out,” Metzdorf says. “The heaviness is not just in a guitar riff, but in heavy lyrics and heavy melody. Some of the heaviest parts of the whole album are Leo’s vocals, while the poppier stuff has a more prominent role on this one.”
*Ca$h Grab* begins where the previous album left off. The slow-burning quiet-loud dynamic of “Freakshow” feels like the end result of the quasi-psychotic conceit behind “In a Jar.” Both songs are sung by Metzdorf, who takes the lead on five of the album’s 14 tracks.
Lydon showcases new versatility in his singing, belting out high notes on songs including “Fate Is,” “Peaches,” and the title track. As his vocals soar, his 8-string guitar rumbles with menacing low end, intertwining with Metzdorf’s thick, heavily distorted bass chords. The band’s secret weapon, St. Germain, pulls it all together with innovative beat substitutions and explosive, syncopated hooks delivered with effortless groove and a fun-loving smile.
In the two years since Big Dumb Riffs, the band has toured relentlessly as both a headliner and support for The Sword, Death From Above 1979, Pigs x9, King Buffalo, and more. Their meticulously curated annual Big Dumb Fest in Austin and headlining dates continue to sell out as their fanbase grows.
Ca$h Grab will be available on LP, CD, cassette, and digital download on October 23, 2026.
