Rick Holmstrom is truly one of the most respected and revered roots and blues guitar players in the world today. He began his long and illustrious career when he was hired to play guitar for West Coast harp wizard, William Clarke in the late 1980s. Rick then joined forces with real-deal Mississippi bluesman Johnny Dyer in 1994, and together they recorded “Listen Up” and “Shake It,” which a quarter-century later are still recognized as two of the greatest modern blues albums of all time. Following his work with Johnny, Rick was hired to play guitar for Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, right when they were at the very top of the international blues scene. Since then they have recorded a multitude of albums with Mavis, including the Grammy Award winning “You Are Not Alone,” and have graced stages across the globe, including London’s Royal Albert Hall. They have also shared stages with such musical luminaries as Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Gregg Allman, Aaron Neville, Ben Harper and Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, to name a few!
While in this writer’s humble opinion, Mavis could not find a better band than she has in Rick and his cohorts, seeing these three cats doing their own thing is truly one of the most adventurous and musically inspiring things you will ever see or hear anyplace.
And now you have a very rare and special opportunity to witness the Rick Holmstrom Band live, at a venue as small and intimate as Humphrey’s Backstage in San Diego, California!

One of the best shows that I have ever attended
was the last time that Blue Largo and Rick Holmstrom Band performed together. There were long magical moments when the audience was so taken away by the performance that the dancers stopped dancing. turned on their heels, faced the music, and all conversation stopped. You could have heard a pin drop. Everyone was mesmerized.
