Richmond Library - Celebrating Matariki: Tū Mataika Performance

Tū Mataika is the duo of singer and lyricist Amy Ka and guitarist Martin Hucklesby.
Amy has a family background of music, theatre, dance and singing and she has performed and danced on stage, in circus and street theatre. She is currently with Whakatū Nelson’s Te Mana Hā kapa waiata. Being dyslexic and on a journey of learning te reo Māori, Amy finds that writing and singing in te reo is a strategy that works well for her.
Martin has played guitar since his college days in local jug bands, folk music groups and duos, big bands, bluegrass and jazz bands. He also sang in Nelson’s acapella choir Octapella.
Tū Mataika will perform classic songs selected mainly from the Great American Songbook, with lyrics reinterpreted by Amy in te reo Māori.
