Riverside Park is featuring Richard Knight in our art opening this month. A word from Knight describing his art that will be featured, "These drawings are imagined recollections, a kind of conjuring, drawn directly without referring to photographs or sketches. For me, indelible ink is most expressive because it is immediate and prompts swift, fluent drawing. I especially like how a single brush stroke can be both shadow and light." Listen to Knight describe his work, inspirations, and techniques while also seeing it with your own two eyes.
Exhibition Title: GARDEN WAYS - Ink Drawings and Object Installations
Description:
These drawings are imagined recollections, a kind of conjuring, drawn directly without referring to photographs or sketches. For me, indelible ink is most expressive because it is immediate and prompts swift, fluent drawing. I especially like how a single brush stroke can be both shadow and light.
Along with drawing, making sculptural objects has been a part of my day-to-day work for many years. For me they are effective because they are an interplay with sculpture, painting and drawing; it’s a process that easily allows one to inform the other. I’m often compelled by the encounter between the rawness of an initial thought and the unruliness of a new material.
