About this Event
Multi-instrumental Cuban powerhouse Yusa and renowned bassist Martin Masakowski welcome the outstanding Argentine guitarist and singer-songwriter Cecilia Zabala to the city of New Orleans. Together, they will weave a dynamic, fully acoustic set featuring original compositions that reflect the rich musical traditions of their home countries. Performing in solo, duo, and trio formats, this special collaboration promises a night of deep musical connection and cultural resonance. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience these masterful musicians in an intimate setting!
A native of Argentina, Cecilia Zabala has been building a deep connection with New Orleans and its community for over a decade. As a guitarist, composer, and singer-songwriter, she seamlessly blends interpretation and creation, weaving together guitar and voice with sensitivity, expression, technique, and intuition. Her music is a crossroads of diverse styles, incorporating elements of Argentine folklore, contemporary composition, jazz, tango, and Brazilian music.
Havana-born Yusa is recognized as one of the leading voices of Cuban music in the 21st century. As a multi-instrumentalist, she moves effortlessly between guitar, bass, tres, vocals, and percussion, using the piano as one of her main composing tools. She relocated to New Orleans in 2020 and has since been collaborating with many of the city’s most talented musicians. Before New Orleans, however, Yusa lived in Argentina for nine years and still considers it her second (or third) home. It was there that she first met and collaborated with Cecilia, forging a lasting musical bond.
Martin Masakowski was born and raised in New Orleans to a distinguished musical family. His extensive travels abroad have shaped his style both rhythmically and sonically. Growing up in a household rooted in both classical and jazz traditions provided a strong foundation for his exploration of other genres, including Balkan, Arabic, Brazilian, Cuban, Greek, and electronic music. Martin pushes the bass to new heights, utilizing the entirety of the instrument in his performances. His first collaboration with Cecilia was six years ago during one of her visits to New Orleans, and he has been eagerly awaiting the chance to perform with her again. More recently, over the past year, Yusa and Martin have been developing their own musical relationship, grounded in rhythm and syncopation.
This special evening of music will take place at Jeanne Jaubert's beautiful black box home theater, located at 2413 Saint Philip Street, New Orleans—also known as Studio Saint Philip. Join us on March 16th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM for an intimate performance where Yusa, Cecilia Zabala, and Martin Masakowski will share their artistry in a setting designed for deep musical connection. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience their unique collaboration in an unforgettable acoustic showcase!
