Richard Aste, now director and CEO of the McNay Art Museum, previously served as curator of European art at the Brooklyn Museum. He coaches leaders, drawing on his first-hand experience as a successful CEO, recognized as a gracious disruptor who drives positive, lasting change.Shortly after earning his PhD in art history, Rich was appointed in 2016 as a first-time executive director, tasked with elevating the visibility, reach, and impact of the first modern art museum in Texas. Over the next six years, he helped transform the McNay from a world-class art destination into a global leader in community impact through artistic excellence.
Today, in addition to onboarding new leaders at the University of California, Irvine, Rich—now also armed with an MBA and coaching certification—supports first-time leaders across industries who are determined to make the second half of their lives even more fulfilling than the first.
In his public lecture at TMA's Little Theater, he will share insights on Leading with Your Values, Purpose, and Joy. Today’s leaders are navigating transitions across all industries, especially in higher education and the arts. And regardless of where they are in an organizational chart, they all have a choice on how to frame their roles in these transitions: as creators of opportunities for growth (a regenerative approach) or helpless, agent-less casualties of circumstances (a regressive approach akin to feeling stuck). In his talk, Leading with Your Values, Purpose, and Joy, Executive Coach and Interim Museum Director at UC Irvine’s Langson Orange County Museum of Art, Rich Aste, will provide tools to embrace transitions as opportunities for creation and personal as well as professional growth.
