About this Event

Are you an age 13-19 Indigenous youth in the Victoria area?

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a traditional Ribbon skirt from the expertise of an Indigenous Elder?

Join us at Belfry Theatre this August for a 3-day workshop where you will learn to create your own ribbon skirt!

Ribbon skirts hold power and significance for Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island; being proud in their identities, worn both in ceremony and when out and about.

Don’t miss this amazing experience to connect with Indigenous traditions!

This Workshop will take place on:

August 19th from 3pm-6pm PDT

August 20th from 12:00pm-4:00pm PDT

August 21st from 12pm-4:00pm PDT

Day 1 : An introduction, followed by teachings shared by Elder Klasom Satlxw Losah, visually planning skirts based off fabric/ribbon swatches.

Day 2: Begin the assembling and sewing of the skirts, learning each step of: tracing patterns, cutting fabric, laying ribbon, sewing using sewing machine.

Day 3: Continuing the same process as day 2, completing any skirts that were not finished on day 2.
