About this Event
RIBA Gloucstershire -
Providing effective human shelter is arguably the most fundamental task of architecture, and the need for humanitarian sheltering continues to increase, with one in 67 people deemed forcibly displaced globally as of 2024, so why are more architects not involved in addressing this urgent problem? Drawing on examples from across Europe and the Middle East, from mega-camps and flat-pack solutions, to improvised shelters and requisitioned buildings, this talk will examine some of the opportunities and challenges for architects to be more engaged with humanitarian sheltering. We all need shelter, but what is it?
