About this Event
Architect Gráinne Shaffrey will lead a tour, as part of the Dublin Festival of History, telling the story of this remarkable 18th century Georgian townhouse. Shaffrey Architects were involved in the architectural conservation of No. 14 over 12 years, rescuing it from imminent collapse and adapting the house for reuse as a museum. 14 Henrietta Street is now a social history museum of Dublin life, from one building’s Georgian beginnings to its tenement times.
Earlier this year, 14 Henrietta Street was awarded the RIAI Silver Medal for Conservation and Restoration 2017–2019 for exemplifying innovation and architectural ingenuity in conserving and restoring Ireland’s cultural and built heritage. The triennial RIAI Silver Medal for Conservation and Restoration is the highest award for buildings that have undergone a process of conservation and restoration and is awarded several years after completion so that the success of the building can be confirmed by the passage of time.
Please note that though this tour is an indoor experience, all windows and doors are open for ventilation, so please dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes.
