Embark on a captivating journey as the Brisbane Vocal Jazz Festival proudly presents "Rhythms of Resilience". Featuring the mesmerising vocals of Naomi Andrew and an exceptional ensemble, this two-hour spectacle promises an evening of unparalleled music and insight.
"Rhythms of Resilience" encapsulates the notion of delving deeper into the heart and soul of jazz music, moving beyond the surface rhythms to explore the rich tapestry of culture, history, and emotion that defines the genre.
At the heart of the performance lies Naomi Andrew, whose enchanting voice takes centre stage, guiding audiences through a repertoire that celebrates the essence of jazz and honours its profound influence on jazz musicians and creatives. Backed by the dynamic talents of James Hunt-Feagai on Piano/Keys, Aaron West on Guitar, Nate Andrew on Bass, and Sherman Jones on Drums, each note resonates with passion and creativity.
Experience the magic as Naomi brings to life the spirit of jazz, paying homage to its roots as a sanctuary and form of expression for jazz musicians and creatives. Delight in jazz standards like "They Can’t Take That Away From Me" and "Smile," immortalised by Nat King Cole, evoking a sense of nostalgia and grace. As well as the soul-stirring melodies of "Black Is" by Fertile Ground and timeless classics like "God Bless the Child" by Billie Holiday, every performance is a celebration of resilience and empowerment.
You won’t want to miss this evening of celebration and reflection as we pay tribute to the enduring legacy of artists in jazz. "Rhythms of Resilience" is more than just a performance; it's a testament to the power of music as a form of liberation and expression.
BVJF is proudly supported by the Creative Sparks Grant Program – an initiative of the Brisbane City Council in partnership with the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
