Rhythms of Resilience: The Cross-Atlantic Journey of African Rhythm
About this Event
Join KALW Public Media for an evening celebrating the enduring influence of African musical traditions through conversation, storytelling, live demonstrations, and community.
Hosted by Emmanuel Nado of Africa Mix, this special program will trace the remarkable journey of African rhythms across the Atlantic and explore how they became the foundation of blues, jazz, salsa, reggae, hip-hop, and countless other musical traditions.
Together, we'll explore:
- The history and resilience of African musical traditions
- The power of polyrhythm and traditional African instruments
- The role of storytelling in preserving culture across generations
- How African music transformed the cultural landscape of the Americas
- Why these traditions continue to inspire artists and communities today
The evening also includes live musical demonstrations, opportunities for audience conversation, and food that celebrates the richness of African culture.
Whether you're a musician, history lover, dancer, educator, or simply curious about the roots of the music that moves us, this is an opportunity to experience the rhythms that continue to connect people across continents and generations.
