Bring Your Drum or Favorite Instrument!
Join us for an interactive workshop exploring the connection between percussion and all instruments. We encourage you to bring your quiet drums, smaller drums, or unique instruments, such as:
- Udu drums
- Talking drums
- Hand drums
- Or any other instrument that resonates with you!

Time: 1pm
Workshop Outline:
I. Introduction and Warm-Up (10-15 minutes)
- Welcome and introductions
- Brief overview of the workshop
- Warm-up exercises to loosen up and prepare the body for music-making
II. Exploring Rhythms and Beats (30-40 minutes)
- Introduction to basic rhythms and beats
- Hands-on practice with hand drums and percussion instruments
- Emphasis on feeling the rhythm and developing coordination
III. Singing Beats: Vocalizing Rhythms (20-25 minutes)
- Introduction to singing beats as a tool for memorization and embodiment
- Participants will learn to vocalize rhythms using syllables, sounds, and phrases
- Emphasis on developing musicality and internalizing rhythms
IV. Every Instrument is a Drum (30-40 minutes)
- Exploration of various instruments as drums (e.g., tables, chairs, body percussion)
- Participants will learn to create rhythms using unconventional instruments
- Emphasis on creativity and experimentation
V. Closing Circle and Reflection (5-10 minutes)
- Final circle to reflect on the experience and share insights
- Closing remarks and final thoughts
