This event features a Shekere Class with Atiba Rorie and an Afro-Cuban Dance Workshop with Vladimir Espinosa & Vilmedis Cobas Silot (with live drumming)!
We'll be at our downtown Durham location (410 W Geer St).
You can attend for Shekere from 3:30-4:30pm, Afro-Cuban Dance from 4:45-6:15pm, or both. No prior experience is needed.
Our Afro-Cuban Dance Workshop is open to movers of all ages. Each month features a new theme, style, or element of movement that emerges from Afro-Cuban cultural and historical traditions.

Here's some more information about our instructors:
Atiba Rorie is the founder of the acclaimed international multi-genre band, Africa Unplugged. Besides leading his own band, Atiba has worked with many professional ensembles, performing at countless venues, including Dance Africa in New York, Tedx Greensboro, National Black Arts Festival, Black Dance USA, and two Presidential Inauguration Celebrations.
Vladimir Espinosa is a musician, actor, and choreographer born in Havana, Cuba: he’s worked with Teatro Caribeno (Cuba), Teatro Orile (Cuba), Compania National De Danza (Ecuador), and Rojo Oscuro (Ecuador). He has been a teacher, instructor, and musician accompanist for the American Dance Festival (Durham, North Carolina) since 2005.
Vilmedis Cobas Silot is a dancer, award-winning choreographer, and a dance and choreography teacher. He has danced as a Principal Interpretive Dancer at National Dance Company of Ecuador, Ecuadorian Chamber Ballet and with the Contemporary Dance group- Subject to Change, Retazo Theater Dance Company, and Theatre of Caribbean Dance Company in Cuba.
