Rhonda Stewart, CALS’s staff genealogist and local history specialist, is who she is—both personally and professionally—because of the women who raised her and the women who raised them. She will share with us her ancestral evolution over the last few decades as she discovered her maternal line.
A native of the “South End” neighborhood of Little Rock, Arkansas, Rhonda C. Stewart graduated from Parkview Senior High. She earned her bachelor of science in journalism with a public relations emphasis at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She has a master’s in public history from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is the daughter of Edward and Louise Stewart Shields and Louis Villery of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and the granddaughter of Willie and Lillie Toombs. Her family roots date to 1895 in the city of Little Rock and 1825 in the state of Arkansas, making her a sixth-generation female born on Arkansas soil. She has been the genealogy and local history specialist with the Central Arkansas Library System’s Butler Center for Arkansas Studies for the past eighteen years.
