From planning new landscapes to solving problems in mature gardens, this seminar explores how to successfully grow and manage rhododendrons in western landscapes. Learn how plant selection, spacing, sun exposure, irrigation, and home design affect long-term plant health and performance. We’ll also cover practical solutions for overgrown or aging rhododendrons, including pruning, rejuvenation, thinning, and removal. Whether you’re designing a new garden or dealing with shrubs that block views, crowd walkways, or threaten foundations, this presentation offers valuable guidance for Master Gardeners and gardening enthusiasts seeking healthier, more beautiful landscapes.
About the Presenter: Mark Bloom, owner of Bloom River Gardens, a wholesale and mail-order supplier of rhododendrons, azaleas, conifers and more, has spent decades growing rhododendrons and other specialty plants in the Pacific Northwest. A longtime educator and plantsman, he combines hands-on nursery experience with teaching in science, anatomy, and plant identification, bringing practical knowledge and horticultural insight to gardeners of all levels.
Hosted by the Lane County Master Gardener Association.
