This concert reimagines one of the most recognizable works in American music through a completely new lens. Led by Teddy Abrams, Rhapsody Reimagined transforms George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue into a vibrant, rhythm-driven experience shaped by Latin Jazz and Cuban traditions.Cuban Pianist Ahmed Alom brings his own creative voice to the work, reworking the piano with open, improvisatory cadenzas, virtuosic ornamentation, and an expanded percussive sound world. Drawing on Latin jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and spontaneous musical exchange, this version pushes the piece beyond its familiar contours while preserving its unmistakable spirit.
This performance invites audiences to hear Rhapsody in Blue as something newly alive, shaped by rhythm, spontaneity, and collaboration. With space for improvisation and a heightened rhythmic drive, the piece unfolds differently in the moment, revealing how dramatically a familiar work can change when reimagined live.
