About this Event
Fictions. Manifestos. Sermons. Tirades. Love letters. Puppets. Poetry. Rhetoric. Pronouncements. Babble. Spiels. Speeches. Stories...and dancing.
RHAPSODY returns to Clio's on Thursday, October 2nd! Join Rawiyah Tariq and Jihan McDonald as they present "The Artist as Utopia" in Clio's lower 40. Both writers will share work specially created for the event and be joined in conversation with Rhapsody creator Michael French.
Bursting hearts need moving feet, so the evening will culminate in dance: Neo soul, House, The Beatles, Hendrix, Mahler, Bowie, Hip Hop, Highlife, and Bebop...no sound will be silenced.
"RAWIYAH TARIQ is Black, gender nonbinary, fat, disabled, and a kink-aware professional. Their roots are in queer, polyamorous, and fat communities. Through Authentic Self Empowerment they provide workshops, ritual creation, divination, and compassionate heart holding, and as an Associate Producer of Red Hots Burlesque (the country's longest running queer burlesque & cabaret show), they have worked to create and maintain space for artists and players of diverse backgrounbds and talents."
"JIHAN MCDONALD (They/Them) is a professor, ritual facilitator, and writer from the Ohlone lands of Huichin. A proud graduate of Spelman College, Jihan holds an M.A. in Social Transformation from the Pacific School of Religion as a Peacemaker Fellow. They are currently compiling a collection of 'memoir essays' entitled Free, Black, and 21."
MICHAEL FRENCH, originally from London, England, is a director, writer, actor, and the creator of Rhapsody. Mr. French is currently finishing his first collection of short stories, Babble.
