About this Event

Following a sold-out first workshop and incredible feedback from attendees, REX: Women in Construction is bringing back one of our most requested sessions!

Our last Impostor Syndrome workshop created such a positive, open and supportive atmosphere, with attendees leaving feeling more confident, encouraged and reassured that they were not alone in the challenges they had experienced.

Here’s what attendees said about the workshop:

“I left feeling so much more positive and confident in myself.”

“It was refreshing to speak so openly in such a supportive and welcoming environment.”

“Hearing other women’s experiences made me realise I’m not alone in feeling this way.”

“The session helped me recognise my achievements and the value I bring to my role.”

“I would absolutely recommend this workshop to other women working in the industry.”

Due to the fantastic response and demand from those who were unable to attend, we’re bringing the workshop back for a second session.

It is open to anyone attending for the first time, as well as previous attendees who would like to revisit the conversation, reinforce what they learned and continue building their confidence.

About REX: Women in Construction

REX: Women in Construction is a welcoming networking event bringing together women and male allies working across construction, retrofit and the built environment.

Some of you may know the community under its previous name, She Builds Birmingham. Originally hosted by Jessica Shuker during her time at South and City College Birmingham, the community has continued to grow through REX, creating a dedicated space for connection, support, honest conversations and industry collaboration.

Taking place at the beautiful Medicine Bakery in Birmingham’s Mailbox, you can expect a relaxed and supportive atmosphere with meaningful networking, fantastic conversations, tea, coffee and incredible pastries in one of Birmingham’s most-loved venues.

Workshop Theme: Impostor Syndrome in Construction & the Built Environment

Back by popular demand, this facilitated workshop led by Jessica Shuker explores the confidence challenges many professionals experience throughout their careers, regardless of experience level, job title or background.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • Confidence within male-dominated industries
  • Overcoming self-doubt and internal pressure
  • Recognising your achievements and professional value
  • Managing difficult workplace dynamics
  • Building supportive networks and community
  • Practical strategies for growth, visibility and confidence

The workshop is designed to be conversational, supportive and engaging rather than overly formal. It creates space for shared experiences, personal reflection and the honest conversations that can be difficult to have within the workplace.

The reality is that many of us experience impostor syndrome, but very few people talk about it openly. This workshop provides an opportunity to have those conversations, learn from one another and recognise that we are often far more capable than we give ourselves credit for.

You’ll leave with practical strategies to support your confidence, a renewed appreciation of your own achievements and the reassurance that you are certainly not the only person who sometimes feels this way.
