Learn about and discuss Rewilding in Northwest Iowa on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center (4500 Sioux River Rd, Sioux City, IA 51109).Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/RewildNWIA-6-15-24 by noon Wednesday, June 12. Attendance is capped at 100. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Carpool if possible as the parking lot is small.
Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided; bring your own bottle or mug.
Be part of a group that will create an action plan to promote rewilding northwest Iowa. This action plan will be driven by the creativity and priorities of the attendees. Ideas for potential projects will be shared, such as assessing current and potential nature reserves in the Loess Hills, corridor restoration, wildlife crossings, and habitat stepping stones, as well as evaluating and improving the quality of our waterways.
10 am: Welcome, Definition of terms (from The Practice of the Wild by Gary Snyder), and three questions from BeWildReWild (https://bewildrewild.org/about/our-journey-to-the-wild-side)
10:15 am: Films selected by Roger Ross Gipple
11 am: Examples of rewilding and finding the wild in northwest Iowa
Noon: Lunch
12:45: Breakout Sessions: Define what is wild in northwest Iowa, how to find it, how to reduce consumption, how to foster more wildness
1:30: Planning session
2:30: Discussion to decide on actions and assessment
3 pm: Go make a difference!
