Reunification Walk Along The Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, Germany was reunited in 1990. These are facts that we take for granted; they are part of history now. However, for many, the Berlin Wall shaped and still shapes their lives: an entire generation of Berliners was separated.

In the early 2000s, the city started building a memorial walk along the once-upon-a-time wall. Today, you can follow the path on foot or by bike. The trail leads along fragments of the wall, memorials to those who tried to escape and more.

On the anniversary of Reunification, I invite you to walk a part of the wall and reflect on what it means to us today.

• Tegeler Forest: A lovely park in the north-west of the city, marked by pine trees.
• Reflective Environment: Slow pace, deep questions, quiet path and mindful company.
• Berlin Wall Landmarks: Fragments of the wall, former border-crossing point and memorials along the former border.
• Invalidensiedlung (disabled settlement): Fifty accessible apartments built after the First World War for those disabled during the war.

Meeting location & time:

• Opt. A. S-Friedrichstraße (Platform for S25) at 11:00
• Opt. B. S-Henningsdorf at 11:50

Things of Note:

1. S-Henningsdorf is in "Zone C". If you have a valid Berlin AB-ticket, you can buy the "Extension C". If you have a Deutschland ticket, you do not have to buy anything.
2. The exact meeting location in S-Friedrichstraße will be shared in the WhatsApp group for confirmed participants.
3. We will be taking the S25.
4. Be on time. The next S-bahn leaves 20 mintues later.!

Finishing location & time:

• Opt. A. S-Friedrichstraße at 18:00
• Opt. B. S-Bergfelde at 17:10

Distance: 14 km walking, with multiple break times

Hiking Difficulty: Easy – walking on marked paths / dirt roads / asphalt, flat terrain, relaxed pace

What to expect?

• A slow-paced walk in Brandenburg.
• Guiding questions to observe nature.
• Reflection questions on what the Berlin Wall means to us now.
• Like-minded people.

What to pack?

• Bring plenty of water with you.
• Pack lunch for our picnic.
• Wear comfortable shoes and socks.
• Dress according to weather conditions. Hat and sunscreen if sunny, and an extra layer if cold, a rainjacket 'cause it's Berlin.

What is included in the price?

• Community leader & guide for the entire duration.
• Your transport ticket, depending on the option you choose.
• Access to Google Photos album dedicated to this trip for sharing all your amazing pics & videos from the trip.
• Access to a WhatsApp group for confirmed participants.

What is NOT included in the price?

• Snacks, food and drinks during the day.
