Returning to Wholeness: a Grof® Breathwork 4-Day Retreat
About this Event
Join us for a Grof® Breathwork retreat in the mountains of Lake Tahoe, a dedicated space to slow down, go inward, and reconnect with your body's natural capacity to heal.
This is an intentionally small retreat, designed to create the kind of safety and intimacy that allows for real depth. The experience centers on four holotropic breathwork sessions. Each participant takes turns in both roles, breathing twice and sitting twice, holding space for their partner as they do. These sessions are supported by integration practices that help you absorb and make sense of what arises, including mandala drawing, somatic work, and group sharing circles. Throughout the retreat, you will be held by a small, intentional community of people who have come for similar reasons. Time in the natural surroundings of Tahoe is woven into the experience, offering its own kind of stillness and restoration.
If you are feeling called to step away from the pace of daily life and invest in coming home to yourself, we would be glad to welcome you!
What is Grof® Breathwork?
Grof® Breathwork, the brand of holotropic breathwork currently offered by the Grof Legacy communities and authorized by Stan and Brigitte Grof, was developed by Stan and Christina Grof at the Esalen Institute in 1974. It is a powerful, experiential practice of self-exploration and healing. Through your own breath, with the support of evocative music and a safe space held by the well-experienced facilitators team, you can access your inner healing intelligence, the innate wisdom that knows how to release what is no longer serving you, restore balance, and bring insight and alignment with your higher self.
Each participant’s experience is unique. Sessions may support the release of emotional or somatic tension, unresolved experiences, or stored energy, while also offering moments of deep insight, connection, and integration. You are always encouraged to trust your own inner guidance and move at your own pace.

Your Facilitation Team:
Marianne Murray is senior faculty and teacher for the Grof® Legacy Training USA, serves on the Board of Directors for the Grof® Legacy Project, and is a Mind and Life Fellow. She holds master's degrees in transpersonal psychology and mindfulness-based psychotherapy, and a doctoral degree in transformative learning and change in human systems. She completed the Grof Transpersonal Training in 2001, is a certified Grof® Breathwork facilitator, and has facilitated holotropic breathwork across the US, UK, Europe, Kenya, and India. She is also certified in Bert Hellinger's systemic constellation work and trained as a massage therapist, both of which inform her facilitation practice. Marianne had the good fortune to study with Stan Grof in the mid-1990s, both in breathwork training and at CIIS, an experience that catalyzed deep personal healing and profoundly shaped her work in the field of personal learning and change.
Mahsa Ghafourian, your host and founder of Collective Awakening, currently an apprentice in the Grof® Legacy Training Program. Her background in computer science alongside her spiritual practice has led her to explore the coherence between mind and heart. She deeply believes that unconditional love is at the heart of all healing, and that each of us carries the wholeness we seek within. She shares her love and devotion to this work by holding space, whether through breathwork, meditation, cacao ceremony, or Akashic record reading, for people to access their own inner wisdom. Outside of her work, she loves getting into nature with her dog, whether that's camping, mountain biking, surfing, or anything else that gets her outside and connected with mother earth.
Christopher Tonry comes to this work via an unconventional path. With a background in design and visual arts, he has spent years as a problem solver, organizer, and creative practitioner navigating the worlds of aesthetics and business. Currently training in the Grof Legacy Training program, he brings a perspective to the field of expanded states exploration that is informed by curiosity. He finds particular meaning in organizing people for transformative events and creating art from experiences that transcend language
