Dear Ship 1908 Family and Alumni,
As many of you may know, Commodore Marc A. Tarantino has made the difficult decision to step down as our Committee Chair after over a decade of dedicated service, due to his recent cancer diagnosis. Marc has been a cornerstone of our Ship, and it’s only fitting that we honor him with the celebration he deserves. With that in mind, we will be holding a Surprise Retirement Ceremony and Change of Watch for him on Sunday, January 12th to express our deepest gratitude for his service and the incredible legacy he leaves behind.
What some may not realize is that Commodore Tarantino isn’t just a leader—he is one of the founding members of the Key 3 leadership team for every unit we’ve had, both past and present. As a Key 3 member, Marc helped lay the very foundations upon which Ship 1908 was built, and his steadfast dedication has ensured that our program has grown and thrived over the years. His departure marks a historic moment for Ship 1908, as this will be the first time a founding Key 3 member steps down, leaving a legacy that will inspire us for generations to come.
We ask that all Ship 1908 members, past and present, join us to make this ceremony unforgettable. This is a rare and meaningful opportunity for each of us to honor a leader who has dedicated himself to nurturing our Ship, instilling strong values in our Sea Scouts, and building a program we can all be proud of.
