About this Event
This event, of particular interest to ministers from all denominations in Scotland, invites participants into a conversation about how this view may shape a renewed imagination for our ministry and churches.
Session 1: The Difference the Incarnation Makes
Session 2: Christ Gathering All Things Into Himself
Event Description
What do we say the Christian faith is about? What is the unique thing we find in Christianity but nowhere else? According to recent research, most pastors and church planters would answer these questions with “Jesus” – but in an increasingly post-Christian age, find it difficult to express what difference he makes. Older soteriological models no longer seem to resonate; past language feels no longer life giving.
In a recently published book, theologian Edwin Chr. van Driel offers fresh ways to unpack the meaning of the gospel for a new missional era. Drawing on a minority tradition within the Christian tradition, he argues that the incarnation is not simply a counter measure to sin, but central to God’s engagement with creation.
During this event you are invited into a conversation about how this view may shape a renewed imagination for our ministry and churches.
Catering
Tea and coffee will be available and you are welcome to bring your own lunch for the break between the two sessions.

Agenda
🕑: 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM
Session 1: The Difference the Incarnation Makes
Info: What would it look like to think about the incarnation as not simply a divine counter measure against sin, but rather as fundamental to creation? How would it be if everything that God has done, is doing, and will do were embedded in God’s decision to take on human flesh? What difference does it make to think about everything and everyone around us, our family and friends, and those who are not so much our friends, as created for this kind of divine presence? In this conversation we explore this approach to Christology and how it might help us move beyond paradigms that feel tired or dated.
🕑: 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM
Session 2: Christ Gathering All Things Into Himself
Info: What does this way of reading the gospel do to our understanding of the church and salvation? How might an understanding of the absolute priority of Christ help us understand why and how Christ gathers a community, and what could we find there that we find nowhere else? This conversation is particularly aimed at those who wrestle with questions of mission, preaching, and ministry.
