About this Event
RE[think] the way we use our precious resources! As resource and waste managers, we see the results of overconsumption, disposable design and imperfect service models every day in what’s presented in the bins. More generally, society has become accustomed to not seeing these wasteful behaviours as our sector has been a victim of its own success in removing these wastes. We manage items made from multiple materials, many of which are not good for the planet, especially at the scale we see today.
It is critical to remember that the first action of the waste hierarchy is waste prevention. After that, the role of circularity becomes paramount, it’s time for us all to seriously consider the role of design in the creation of ‘stuff’ and recognise how our sector, which is at the nucleus of circularity, can collaborate to improve decision-making to reduce wasting these precious resources.
In collaboration with the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), join Tim Walker, President of CIWM and Chief Executive of arc21, as he talks us through the newly published Presidential Report, Turning off the Tap: Why Better Design Can Increase Resource Resilience and Reduce Consumption. The report highlights CIWM's unique position to drive this transformation and offers key recommendations aimed at speeding up the shift toward a more circular economy.
Join us as we explore how we can lead the way in safeguarding these essential materials, driving a circular economy, and ensuring a sustainable, resilient future for the nation.
