Experience the thrills and chills of vintage spooky cinema brought back to life! From classic monsters (Nosferatu and Frankenstein) to dystopian visions of the future (Metropolis), this is where the Horror and Sci-Fi genres on film began. Wild Beautiful Orchestra performs a live soundtrack to film clips from the 1890s-1920s with a ten-person chamber orchestra.
This production is focused on the spooky, eerie, and fun aspects of early cinema, ranging from spine-tingling scenes to laugh-out-loud comedy.
Music by Bartók, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Berg, Revueltas, Webern, Scriabin, Boulanger, Weill, Janacek and Holmès, arranged by Chappell Kingsland.
The music includes some of the most explosive and exciting works ever to come from the concert hall. You will certainly recognize Saint-Saëns’s Danse macabre, and possibly Bartók’s Romanian Dances and Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini, but have you ever heard the Parisian composer Lili Boulanger’s enchanting Nocturne? What about Danza Geometrica by Mexico’s greatest composer, Silvestre Revueltas? WBO’s Artistic Director Chappell Kingsland arranged music written by thirteen composers between 1876 and 1940, so that these films would be accompanied by incredibly rich and expressive art music from the same time period.
If you're looking for a Halloween-themed event that's both eerie and entertaining, elegant and fun, classic and new, this is for you!
