Restorative Redirection and De-Escalation
About this Event
Room: Grand Hall
Addressing challenging student behavior is one of the most complex — and most important — responsibilities educators face. In this hands-on, reflective workshop, participants will examine the full arc of student behavior, from early triggers to peak moments of escalation, and build practical skills to interrupt that cycle before it reaches a crisis point. Using scenario-based activities, station rotations, and collaborative discussion, participants will leave with concrete, relationship-centered strategies they can apply the very next school day.
- Unpack what works — and what doesn't. Through guided reflection and peer dialogue, educators will examine their current response patterns, identify practices that strengthen student connection, and work to unlearn habits that unintentionally escalate tension.
- Build your de-escalation toolkit. Participants will explore the Acting Out Cycle, restorative communication techniques, and the Social Discipline Window to deepen their understanding of how adults can support students at every stage of a behavioral response.
Redirection and de-escalation is more than a set of techniques — it's about how we show up, especially when tension is high.
