Restorative Practices training for educators, including a half-day workshop specifically to support school leaders in RP implementation.
About this Event

As educators, we recognize the urgent need for safer, healthier schools for all of our students. Restorative Practices is a commitment to building and sustaining relationships that fundamentally benefit all members of the community. This training will support you in understanding and confidently using a restorative model within a school setting.

In this intensive, highly interactive two-day training, you'll learn the essential theory, mindset, and components of Restorative Practices. The day will focus on strategies for proactively building relationships, models of discipline and accountability, and processes for restorative conflict resolution. Principals, administrators, and school leaders will have the opportunity to focus on mindset, infrastructure, and practical strategies that will allow Restorative Practices to thrive within their schools.

You will gain:

🌱 a fundamental understanding of Restorative Practices in schools and youth centers

🌱 the mindset of a relationship-based approach to discipline and conflict resolution

🌱 the process and practice of leading proactive community-building Circles

🌱 how to lead restorative impromptu conversations and repairing harm circles

🌱 tools for effective school-wide implementation

🌱resources to continue your work beyond our two-day training

🌱 plenty of time to practice, practice, practice

The training will be led by experienced educators and IIRP-trained facilitators Christel Butchart and Anita Scott Neville.

Nourishing food and beverages provided.

CEU certificate will be provided by request.

Current university students are welcome to join us at a reduced Student rate. They are not required to attend the school-wide implementation portion of this workshop (on the afternoon of Day 2).

We want to ensure cost isn't a barrier to participation, so individuals are welcome to apply for a sliding scale rate. Email [email protected].

Anita Scott Neville is a Durham native and graduate of Durham Public Schools. Anita serves as Restorative Practices Coordinator and Equity Champion at The School for Creative Studies. Her passion and belief in the “science” of restorative practices led her to complete her graduate certification from the International Institute of Restorative Practices (IIRP). Anita brings to her work an appreciation for the broad scope of community needs that could benefit from a restorative practices platform. Service to students and families who seek to strengthen their relationships is her primary focus. Anita’s self-reflections honor the spirit of “Ubuntu – I am because you are” and her awareness that community matters.
