RESONANT BODIES X SULLOWResonant Bodies is a duo consisting of Rob Bentall (nyckelharpa) and Zebedee Budworth (hammered dulcimer). They met playing in doom-folk ensemble Slug Milk sometime in 2017. The duo seeks to reimagine their medieval sound world through improvised musical dialogue. Their improvisations can feel like a white-knuckle ride; ranging from calm to chaotic, they work up to a frantic pace, pushing themselves to a point they can barely hold. Their performances have a distinct flavour due to the simple, tonal harmonies that their ancient instruments can produce. Recently, Resonant Bodies have supported Shovel Dance Collective at EartH, were part of Sonorities Festival (Belfast), and were selected for a prestigious Britten Pears Artist Residency in 2026.
Sullow are an improvising trio, featuring Jacken Elswyth, Daniel S. Evans, and Joshua Barfoot of Shovel Dance Collective. Inflected and informed by the traditional music they mutate within the larger group, they negotiate an improvisation that has been variably described as ‘farmyard’ and ‘rodeo’. Repeated patterns rise and fall in quick attacks, short decays and dense bursts of momentary composition. For this concert, Resonant Bodies and Sullow will join forces to form an improvising quintet, blending the styles of the two groups. This quintet had its debut performance at The Horse Hospital, London in April 2025.
JOE BOLGER
Joseph Porter-Bolger is a poet and musician based in Peterborough. His poetry draws on myth, music, and the (un)natural world to explore embodiment, ecology, and grief. Blending rigour and lyricism, his work examines how language, tradition, and the body intertwine in acts of making and unmaking. A recovering opera singer, he draws on classical traditions and immersive recording techniques to create performances where voice, text, and ambient texture converge. He holds a Ph.D. from King’s College London, where his research investigated gendered stylistics in early music singing.
BEN GAUNT
Ben Gaunt is a sonic artist, composer, and improviser based in Leeds. He studied clowning at the École Philippe Gaulier in France, and has been nominated for a British Composer Award and an Ivor Novello. In 2024 he was Composer in Resonance at the Leeds International Piano Competition Piano Trail Festival (which is arguably too many words, but sounds fancy).
CHARITY STOW
Charity Stow is an upcoming singer-songwriter based in Nottingham. Charity comes from a musical family and has always worked with her father to create her own sound. Both are self taught musicians and this has informed Charity’s intuitive attitude towards music. Music has always been a part of her life and as such she has taken influence from oldies such as Carole King, Bob Dylan and The Beatles to inspire her song-writing but is constantly learning from new artists such as Billie Marten, Daughter and Lucy Rose in order to find her niche. Song-writing is a form of therapy for Charity... you can hear this through the honesty of her lyrics and the passion behind the tracks.
