As part of the School of Public and International Affairs Graduate Symposium, the Taft Research Center hosts Resistances at Risk, an exhibition organized by SPIA graduate students Stephen Bryant, Samira Moaddeli, Prateek Srivastava and Marie-Rose Tshite. The exhibition will be open to the public on Thursday, April 11 starting at 5PM.
Description:
"We bring together an exhibition to discuss the links between risk, memories, and stories. Through the carefully curated creative output of four graduate scholars who present various stories from DR Congo, Sri Lanka, Rwanda and transnational solidarity for the Feminists for Jina movement in the United States and Iran on how individuals use memories for political relevance, agency recognition, and bringing narratives to the center stage to keep the conversation about human rights alive, including themselves as political actors. In this event, we bring attention to the gaps between the academy and the stories. If there is a use of the language of academia, there is also a risk of disconnecting from the public. Hence, subjugated knowledge of the stories of individuals is not put in books in academia. We bring these concerning issues to light by talking about how they remain at risk. We are challenging the way stories are told and narratives are created."
