Resistance and Reconciliation in York

How can art serve as a form of both resistance and reconciliation? Explore the enduring Indigenous presence in the Bathurst and St. Clair area through its parks, public art, and community spaces, and hear stories of Indigenous life before colonization, the impacts of the Indian Act and residential schools, and the ongoing legacy of activism. Along the way, discover how Indigenous communities are creating space, visibility, and vibrancy in today’s city.
This tour will be led by Mike Buckland of Membertou First Nation in Unama’ki (Cape Breton). Mike works as an Instructor with the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres, delivering training that addresses Indigenous-specific racism and supports systems change.
