About this Event
Universal Chan International 501(c)(3) non-profit organization will be holding a 3-Day Summer Camping Chan.
Site: Campground by the Lake, South Lake Tahoe, California
Dates: July 28 to July 30, 2023
Starts: 1pm (7/28) Ends: 11am (7/30)

The premier, go-to desination year-round for stunning alpine views and plentiful outdoor activities, Lake Tahoe sits at an elevation of 6,225 ft in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is one of the oldest, deepest, and clearest lakes in the world. We will be camping right by the lake and El Dorado Beach and immersing in the purifying, unforgettable scenery of the surrounding nature.
This retreat will include hiking Chan (Zen), sitting Chan, cooking Chan, physical exercises, and learning and applying Dharma principles. Participants need to be able to walk an average of 5–10 miles per day.
This is a Youth/Young Adults Retreat. Suitable for people in decent health conditions and all levels of practitioners, including beginners with no experience.
Space is limited—early bird gets the worm! So please apply as soon as possible.
Participants need to fill out our Camping Chan Retreat Application Form in order to be considered for admittance into this retreat.
Retreat Fee: $100
It includes: Lodging in communal tent, 3 daily vegan meals, premium teas, and Chan teachings from a qualified Master.
Transportation is NOT included.
From about 1 month prior to the retreat, we will let you know what you need to bring to the retreat.
Acceptance into this retreat is by application only.
Application Deadline: July 20, 2023 by 11:59pm
In order to apply to be considered for a spot in this retreat, please complete the following steps:
1. Go to and download our "Camping Chan Retreat Application Form." 2. Fill out the "Camping Chan Retreat Application Form" completely.
3. Save your form with the filename as "[Your name] Camping Application July 2023"
4. Submit your completed form back to us by emailing it to us at [email protected] as an attached file and with the email subject line titled as "[Your name] Camping Application July 2023".
It is a a fillable PDF Form that can be signed digitally. Open the form in Adobe Acrobat Pro, fill out all the boxes, and save your document.

We will review your application and then email you back to let you know whether you have been accepted into this retreat.
Please note: Your spot in this retreat is not confirmed until you have paid the retreat fee.
If your application has been accepted, the final steps of the reservation process are to:
1. Email us at [email protected] a picture of your photo ID (i.e. a valid government-issued ID that includes a photo of you, such as your driver’s license, passport, or national identity card).

3. Pay the retreat fee when you register for the retreat here on this Eventbrite page. Note: We will email you a unique Access Code to enter in order to access the checkout page to make your retreat fee payment and secure your spot in this retreat. Please do not share your unique Access Code with anyone else; this code is a one-time code for your use only.
We will remind you about these steps in the email notification of your acceptance to this retreat.
After emailing us your completed "Camping Chan Retreat Application Form" along with a picture of your photo ID and paying the retreat fee here on this Eventbrite page, you will be officially registered as a Retreat Participant and will have reserved your spot for this retreat.
There are no refunds after you have paid and registered for this retreat. If you do decide to cancel your registration and reserved spot, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make the proper arrangements ahead of time.
