About this Event

Want to stand out from the crowd AND protect your neighbourhood?

You may have noticed that lately there have been a lot of demolitions of residential properties in Halifax, destroying affordable housing and marring heritage street scapes. Many of these demolitions might have been prevented if the houses had been designated heritage properties.

If your home pre-dates 1920, you can do something to help curb the destruction and protect your neighbourhood from out-of -scale and out-of-character developments by applying to have your heritage property municipally designated. Registered build ings offer a sense of specialness and an alternative to demolition.

Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia is offering a free workshop with Halifax heritage researcher William Breckenridge. William will walk you through the processes of researching your property and applying for heritage designation. He will briefly outline the financial benefits and dispel some of the myths around heritage property designation.
