About this Event
Learn to create beautiful designs on copper, brass, and aluminum, that stand out from the suface of the metal. Repousse is a metalworking technique in which sheet metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in bas relief. While repoussé is used to work on the reverse of the metal to form a raised design on the front, chasing is used to refine the design on the front of the work by sinking the metal. Chasing is the opposite of repoussé, and the two are used in conjunction to create a finished piece. There are few techniques that offer such diversity of expression while still being relatively economical. It is also known as embossing. An engrossing genre of metalsmithing with an exciting hands-on making experience. (8) hour class of intensive instruction including one hour fortunch/breaks. Attendees will need to bring eye and ear protection, and sturdy cotton work attire, including leather shoes. Open to all ages and genders 18 and up. 16-18 with parental permission. Materials are supplied. BYO lunch and beverage.
