Report Launch: Independent Commission on Inclusion and Belonging in Newham

Taking place on the University of East London campus on Thursday 23 July 2026, the event will bring together MPs, local government representatives, community leaders, local institutions and residents to discuss the Commission’s findings and recommendations — and what they mean for the future of inclusion and belonging in Newham.

The Commission was established to explore how people can live well together in Newham - London’s most diverse borough - and how the council, local institutions, businesses and communities can work together to strengthen connection, trust and shared pride in a place of rapid change.

The final report, Bringing people together in a place of change, sets out recommendations to help Newham become a national beacon of good practice on inclusion and belonging. These include proposals for stronger local leadership, more opportunities for people from different backgrounds to connect, better support for new arrivals, protection of valued community spaces, and the development of a new Newham Changemaker Network to support emerging local leaders.

This event will provide an opportunity to hear from those involved in the Commission, reflect on the report’s recommendations, and discuss how partners across Newham can help turn them into practical action.
