Incorporate the beauty of the natural world into your fabricated jewelry designs by fabricating fine silver components in this introductory metal clay class for metalsmiths. Discover how quick and easy it is to mold and reproduce sticks, succulents, and small found objects at the bench, compared to traditional lost wax methods. Then let your imagination run wild as you use your newly created components in a finished piece of jewelry of your choosing.
Get acquainted with the properties of metal clay, learn its history and discover why it is a good option to have as a tool in the metalsmithing studio. Participants will make re-usable molds of natural objects and create fine silver components to be used in their future projects at the bench. Additional tips and tricks will be shared as well as many examples of using metal clay components as soldered elements in fabricated jewelry pieces. Students are encouraged to bring small found objects that inspire them, as well as findings, gemstones, beads, chain and other jewelry components needed to fabricate a finished piece.
