Learn to repair rips and holes in woven denim or cotton by hand using embroidery techniques, including sashiko, a Japanese form of decorative reinforcement stitching. Bring a denim item to repair; basic supplies like needles, thread and scissors provided. Students are welcome to bring their own tools.
Free; registration required. Doors open at 6 p.m., guided demonstration at 6:30 p.m.
This workshop series is based on a culture of repair, working to transform our culture into one that repairs more readily than it purchases, to create a more sustainable community. Workshops on mending, repairing outdoor gear, upcycling and fixing objects, along with sharing how-to skills, remind us that low-cost repairs help the climate.
Upcoming workshops
Dec. 9: Sewing Machine 101 (zippered bags)
Jan. 13: Repairing base layers
Feb. 10: Sewing Machine 101 (applying patches and sewing curves)
