One of the common phrases you will hear from traders is that ‘mimi ni wa TOT si wa VAT’That phrase though popular is misleading. TOT and VAT though both based on sales are not related. TOT is an income tax.
The correct statement should be ‘’mimi ni wa TOT si wa corporate tax’ .
Once you hit KES 5,000,000 taxable sales in a year you are required to register for VAT whether you are on TOT or not.
