NOTICE:RENT features many adult themes, including sex, drug use, profanity, and same-sex intimacy. Due
to the adult nature of RENT, all actors must be over 18 at the time of auditions. NO exceptions.
Plot Synopsis
Set in the East Village of New York City, Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for
today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent has
become a pop cultural phenomenon. With songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences
of all ages. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s Rent follows a year in the life
of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New
York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. How these young bohemians negotiate their
dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.

To audition, please pick a song from the show that best represents the character you are auditioning for.
If you are auditioning for more than one character, pick a song that best brings out your talent and shows your vocal range.
*All who are auditioning please be familiar with the song “Will I” from the show and be prepared to sing it during auditions. Click on the YouTube link below to be familiar with the song.
If you are auditioning for Ensemble, please prepare a Song in the style of the show. Please bring a karaoke track version of the song you want to sing that can be played on your phone or tablet, a Bluetooth speaker will be provided. YouTube has many song choices for karaoke tracks.
