Chantal Westby n'aurait jamais pensé qu'elle quitterait la France pour s'établir aux Etats-Unis, où elle deviendrait une artiste reconnue et que son amour pour l'Art la mènerait à prendre conscience de l'environnement jusqu'à l'activisme.

L'artiste sera en conversation avec le Directeur Exécutif de l'Alliance Française autour de son oeuvre et de ses engagements.

A propos de l'artiste:

Sculpteure contemporaine franco-américaine, artiste écologique et conteuse immersive forte de plus de trente ans d'expérience, Chantal Westby crée des œuvres à la croisée de l'art, de la justice climatique, et de l'engagement citoyen.

Sa pratique artistique a débuté en 1993 avec une conviction simple : l'art doit être plus qu'un simple ornement, il doit éveiller. Au fil des années, elle a développé une œuvre multidisciplinaire comprenant sculptures, installations immersives, environnements multimédias et projets à vocation sociale, exposés aux États-Unis, en Europe et en Asie.

Son travail puise son inspiration dans les vestiges marins, les matériaux bruts et la mémoire collective pour créer des espaces où les visiteurs peuvent se confronter à la perte, renouer des liens, et imaginer un renouveau. Chantal Westby never imagined she would leave France to settle in the United States, where she would become a renowned artist and that her love of art would lead her to environmental awareness and ultimately to activism.

The artist will be in conversation with the Executive Director of the Alliance Française about her work and her commitments.

About the Artist:

Chantal Westby is a French-American Contemporary Sculptor, Ecological Artist, and Immersive Storyteller with over three decades of experience creating work at the intersection of art, climate justice, and public engagement.
Her practice began in 1993 with a simple conviction: art must do more than decorate, it must awaken. Over the years, she has developed a multidisciplinary body of work that includes sculpture, immersive installations, mixed media environments, and socially engaged projects exhibited in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Her work draws from marine remnants, elemental materials, and lived memory to create spaces where viewers can confront loss, rediscover connection, and imagine renewal.
