About the Programme:
Join us for a film screening of Renaissance of Asian Wild Cats, brought to you by Singapore Wildcat Action Group (SWAG). There will be a short discussion on the conservation of Singapore's last wild cat. This satellite screening is part of the Earth In Focus Singapore Nature Film Festival 2024 happening from 1-3 November 2024 at the Emerald Pavilion, Siloso Beach, Sentosa.
Singapore Wildcat Action Group (SWAG) is a volunteer-run non-profit organization established in 2019, dedicated to wildcat conservation. With a passion for meaningful action, SWAG aims to build a network of supporters for wildcat conservation, focusing on the critically endangered Malayan tiger and mainland leopard cat. Through volunteer efforts, SWAG works towards its mission to protect and conserve these amazing animals.
About the Film:
Taiwan was once a paradise for wildcat species, with big cats like tigers and clouded leopards calling it home. Today, only one native feline remains: the leopard cat, which could face extinction nationally within the next twenty years. Seeking to conserve leopard cats, the team ventures into the Maoluo River and its surrounding habitat for the first time—the region with the highest density of leopard cat in central Taiwan, spanning three counties and cities, and serving as a vital ecological corridor for leopard cat movement. The documentary adopts the perspective of a young leopard cat named "Muddy," who was rescued after being buried alive, to unveil the mysterious and real world of this wildcat species as never seen before.
