The Board of The Real Rosewood Foundation invites the citizens of Alachua County to join them in commemorating the 102nd anniversary of the Rosewood Massacre on 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 22517 SW 15th Avenue, Newberry, Florida. After a brief candle lighting ceremony in remembrance of the victims of the 1923 massacre, Lizzie PRB Jenkins, Founder and longtime Rosewood activist, will lead conversations about the close connections of Rosewood and Archer, Florida, and the importance of commemorating all of our complex North Florida history. Miss Lizzie is one of the last surviving local descendants of the families connected to Rosewood, and has made it her life’s work to research the history of the week of violence in 1923 that left the town destroyed, its inhabitants scattered. Under Miss Lizzie’s leadership, The Real Rosewood Foundation has plans to open a 29 acre park on her family’s property in Western Alachua County that will act as a center for learning, interpretation and remembrance. Parking assistants will be at the gate to direct; outdoor clothes suggested.
