About this Event
This exhibition offers a multimodal journey into the sacred heritage of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Sousse, Tunisia. Through photography, interviews, and video, it explores themes of remembrance and the preservation of cultural heritage, focusing on the zawiyas.
The opening reception on Dec 5 will feature a panel discussion with artist Sityana Abdu and curator Soraya Hosni, moderated by Abdul-Rehman Malik, inviting reflection on the roles, necessity, and absence of sacred community spaces in modern society.
Guests will enjoy Tunisian delicacies, pastries, and refreshments as they engage with the exhibit, which raises questions about the role of communities in shaping the future of these sacred sites and the stories they hold, honoring the past while contemplating their enduring significance.
The exhibit is showing from Dec 3 to Dec 13.
This event is sponsored by the Council on African Studies, Council on Middle East Studies, Jackson School of Global Affairs, Dwight Hall Muslim Leadership Lab and the Thomas C Barry Travel Fund.
