Every Wednesday evening this September, we celebrate the enigmatic genius of Michelangelo Antonioni with a curated selection of his most iconic films. From the haunting silences of L’Avventura to the visual poetry of Blow-Up, Antonioni’s work reshaped cinematic language—favoring mood, ambiguity, and existential depth over conventional storytelling. His films invite us to linger in the spaces between words, where alienation, desire, and modernity collide.
Born on September 29, 1912, in Ferrara, Italy, and passing away on July 30, 2007, in Rome, Antonioni left behind a legacy that continues to challenge and inspire filmmakers worldwide. He was the only director to win the Palme d'Or, Golden Lion, Golden Bear, and Golden Leopard, and received an Honorary Oscar in 1995 for his masterful visual style. His trilogy—L’Avventura, La Notte, and L’Eclisse—remains a cornerstone of modernist cinema, exploring the discontents of contemporary life with unmatched elegance and introspection.
