In anticipation of the Praise House Project in 2023, for February in honor of Black History Month, the Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with artist-activist Charmaine Minniefield, will present a series of site-specific public art installations, exhibitions and programs in downtown Atlanta, along Auburn Avenue and in the King Historic District. The series will activate multiple public spaces to acknowledge the history of the 1906 Race Massacre and the legacy of Black resistance.
This event will feature a screening of the documentary Never Again: 1906 Atlanta Race Massacre, Two Coalitions’ Call to Community [40 min]. The Coalition to Remember the 1906 Atlanta Race Massacre wishes to increase public awareness of the 1906 Riot and Massacre and to document how racially diverse groups of progressive Atlantans have come together to publicly remember and reframe the atrocity through the work of two successive, related coalitions. The documentary chronicles these coalitions and inspires viewers to get involved. A discussion will follow curated by Dr. R. Candy Tate, Chair of The Coalition to Remember the 1906 Race Massacre, along with other subject matter experts.
