Remember the Arizona

Join the University of Arizona for the 2024 Remember the Arizona 5K to commemorate our military heritage and honor those who have served.

This event is being held in partnership with University of Arizona Outreach, Distance & Continuing Education (ODCE), Arizona Online, Naval ROTC, and Veterans Education and Transition Services (VETS).

Event: 5K Run and Walk (with a virtual option available)

On December 7, 1941, the USS Arizona (BB-39) was struck by Japanese bombers during the attack on Pearl Harbor. A devastating explosion claimed the lives of approximately 1,177 officers and crew members aboard. In honor of the 83rd anniversary of this tragic event, we invite you to join us for a special commemoration and a 5K run/walk.

About the Event:
Participants can join us in person at the University of Arizona’s main campus in Tucson, at the USS Arizona Memorial on the mall, or virtually at their own time and pace. This is a family-friendly, free event, offering a meaningful way to honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans and military-connected community.

This run will follow the annual Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps USS Arizona Ceremony at 9 a.m. at the USS Arizona Mall Memorial.

The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program develops young men and women morally, mentally, and physically, and instills in them the highest ideals of honor, courage, and commitment. The program educates and trains young men and women for leadership positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps.

Veterans Education and Transition Services (VETS) is dedicated to supporting military-connected students and honoring the legacy of those who served. With over 6,000 veterans and military-affiliated students on campus, we aim to provide the resources and recognition they deserve. Join us for this special event as we come together to celebrate their contributions and sacrifices.

Race day registration will begin at 8:30 AM. All participants are required to sign a liability waiver to participate.

All ages and fitness levels welcome. Walk or run at your own pace.
