This talk explores why ghost stories persist in hyper-modern Singapore, tracing how they move from everyday conversation to manuscripts, film, fiction, and digital communities — and what the endurance of the supernatural today invites us to rethink about belief, rationality, and modern life in a city obsessed with progress.
About the speaker:
Ashley Chin is the semi-viral ghost girl who went viral last Halloween for her Master's research at the University of Cambridge on ghosts, ghost stories, and haunted spaces in contemporary Singapore. Mostly anthropologist and sometimes essayist, she is currently Curatorial Research Assistant (Islamic Art) at the Asian Civilisations Museum.
