$10 Donation at the door for this exclusive event.Chef Charles Amherst started cooking in his native Haiti, with his family coming together over homemade meals. Though he emigrated to the United States to follow his dreams, the Caribbean nation still holds a special place in his heart.
After a magnitude 7.2 earthquake rocked the country last month, sadly killing thousands of people and causing untold damage, Amherst knew to help the people of Haiti, he needed the help of our community.
On Thursday, Sept. 30, the restaurant will host an event with all door proceeds benefitting World Central Kitchen. In recent weeks, the nonprofit has helped provide thousands of meals to the people of Haiti. The organization has planted roots and outreach efforts in Haiti for over 10 years with a mission to use the power of food to empower communities and strengthen economies. Highlights of the night will include a live band featuring Ariel Blue and Sheldon Rhoden, who are well known for their work in the Sarasota area.
The event will feature poetry and music, including rhythm and blues, soul, and jazz. A special menu and specialty drinks will be provided for guests to purchase.
Attendees can donate $10 at the door and Chaz 51 will match any money raised up to $1,000.
