About this Event

Between 1875 and 1899 the Society for Photographic Relics of Old London were commissoned to preserve an architectural record of buildings. They produced 120 images of buildings under the threat of demolition in a rapidly changing city.

Orginally focussed on documenting the the Oxford Arms (pictured), a galleried coaching inn rebuilt shortly after the Great Fire of London. The inn was to be pulled down by the 1870s to make way for what would become the new Old Bailey. The photographic was expanding to document further threatened buildings, to preserve their likeness for future generations.
Join us for an illustrated talk to find out more about this striking collection that represents the changing of London and the removal of much of it's early modern buildings.
