ABOUT THIS MARVELOUS LIGHT: Let there be light. These first-recorded words of God did so much more than speak our world into existence. The "Let there be light" of Genesis 1 radiates still through the continuum of eternity. Light points us to Jesus, illuminates salvation, and ultimately becomes a believer's earthly identity in God's eternal Kingdom of marvelous light.
Whether it's in the glitter of stars, the design of a Broadway stage, or the catalyst for a flower's growth, light captures the imagination and energizes its surroundings—a transformative and revealing power that God infused into our very lives. We see light shining through the narrative of Scripture, connecting us to both the dawn of time and the blazing glory of eternity. And just as a prism refracts white light into a rainbow of brilliant colors, the entirety of Scripture transforms its collective parable of light into shimmering histories, prophesies, letters, proverbs, and poetry that illuminate the fullness, power, and love of the Creator—and our extraordinary place within His creation.
That is the story told in this book. By way of scientific research, illustrations from popular culture, and the words of great theologians, an expedition is charted through the holy texts with a friendly touch and a bit of humor. By the end, we will better know the Creator of light, find encouragement to live in His light, and be inspired to share that light with others.
