In a blend of crystal-clear, Nordic melancholy and dusty Americana, Antonio Dayyani invites you into his unorthodox jazz universe filled with stories of melodies and delicate sound-textures.
Antonio Dayyani (2000) is a young drummer and composer from Aarhus, Denmark, who's already been highly acclaimed by radio-hosts and critics for his ability to create music in a completely personal and unique style, which was first revealed on his debut “Herfra kan det kun gå to veje” (2022), which has received hundreds of air-plays on national Danish Radio and was featured on the top-10-list of that year’s jazz albums by Jazznyt .
This fall, Antonio will be ready with his second studio-album “Trop op” (translated: “Step up”) and has in the meantime entered into a promising collaboration with Copenhagen-based April Records, who’ve built an incredible roster of Danish jazz-artists such as Little North, Nana Rashid, Kresten Osgood, Rasmus Sørensen, & OTOOTO.
This album is an encouragement to “step up” for one another and to share yourself with the world. Antonio says as follows about the album-title:
“We live in a time where there is an increasing focus on our mental health, and personal growth where we need to take care of ourselves, which of course is a very good thing. But in doing so, I think we can sometimes withdraw too much into ourselves, focus on the inner self and forget to step up for each other and the communities that surround us and the things we do every day.”
When playing live, Antonio brings his sextet consisting of some of the most heartfelt, young musicians in Denmark.
“Throughout the show, the audience was overwhelmed by the fine balance of Nordic folk-tone and dusty Americana” - Side33
“Unique sounding band” – JAZZNYT
SUPPORT: Andrea Maagaard
Andrea Maagaard is, besides being the pianist in Antonio Dayyani Sextet, a singer, song-writer and composer who released her first EP 'No story to be told' in 2022. Andrea's pure, nordic and truly beautiful voice evolves in a blend of pop and jazz, centered around the piano, and as Niels Overgård (Jazznyt) says:
"Andrea Maagaard has a great sense of melody and harmony. The melodies are neat and simple (...) and the intimacy in her playing and singing brings her very close to the listener."
